The relevant guidelines of the UVV
(Accident prevention regulations of
the professional associations) must be
observed when using the machine. Any
mechanical or electrical modification of the
machine, which does not correspond to
the valid guidelines, entails a substantial
risk of accidents. The following points
must be observed during operation:
Do not remove mechanical or electrical
safety devices. The risk of injury
(e.g. by an electric shock) to the
user increases substantially, if the
safety devices have been removed or
damaged.
Therefore, check whether all safety
devices are attached and fastened
correctly.
If you have long hair protect it (hair net
or cap). Long hair can be caught easily
in rotating parts!
Wear close-fitting clothes; Close the
strap on jacket sleeves. Loose clothes
can be caught by the drill and result in
injuries
Always wear safety goggles or face
protection during work, in order to
protect your eyes against chips from
the work piece.
Never hold work pieces in your hand
when drilling. Always use a machine
vice or another clamping tool. You are
not able to hold work pieces safely by
hand! The work piece can deflect and
injure you.
Secure work pieces and clamping tools
on the drilling table against sudden
movements. Either fasten these with
screws or clamp them in a machine
vice mounted on the drilling table.
Work pieces, which are not fastened
securely can be deflected or hurled
away the device and injure you.
Check whether the drill chuck clamps
correctly. A drill bit, which is not
clamped firmly, can damage the work
piece or fling it out of the device and
injure you.
Safety instructions
10 GB
Check whether the cable entry points
are ok. Damaged or not properly
installed cables can cause an electric
shock.
Only use hand-brushes, brushes,
rubber wipers, chip hooks or similar
aids to remove the drilling chips. Metal
chips are sharp-edged and can injure
you.
Do not clean or lubricate the machine
when it is running.
Moving parts can injure you.
Always keep the V-belt covered
(protection against reaching in).
Only tighten the toothed ring drill chuck
with the supplied toothed ring key. You
can only clamp the drill safely with the
toothed ring key.
Moving parts can injure you.
Never leave the toothed ring key in the
drill chuck! Before turning the machine
on make sure that the key has been
removed! The toothed ring key could
be hurled out of the device and injure
you or damage the drilling machine.
Do not use drills with a damaged
shank. Damaged drills cannot be
clamped centrically and damage the
work piece.
The drilling machine is not suitable for
milling work! Milling requires a higher
output and a special device.
A damaged connection lead may only
be replaced by an identical special
lead. Otherwise, there is the risk of fire
or of an electric shock.

Electrical system
The machine is equipped with an electrical
system, which corresponds to standards.
Only allow a certified specialist to repair
the machine.
The reversing contactors are
released, if the voltage drops in
the control circuit. The machine
does not start up automatically for
safety reasons, even if the power
is turned on again. It must be
switched on again.
Electrical safety
Always check whether the mains voltage
corresponds to the voltage indicated on
the rating plate.
Replacing cables or plugs
Dispose old cables or plugs immediately
after replacing them by new ones.
Connecting the plug of a loose cable to a
power socket is dangerous.
Using extension cables
Only use a suitable, certified and
accordingly marked extension cable,
which corresponds to the machine rating.
The cores must have a minimum cross
section of 1.5mm
2
. If the cable is on a reel,
then it must be fully unwound.
3. ASSEMBLY
Assembly
Fig. A
Prepare the baseplate (5) of the
machine.
Safety instructions / Assembly
11GB
Fasten the column (6) to the baseplate
with the enclosed screws. Secure
it with the appropriate screws and
washers.
Tighten the screws with a wrench
(wrench size 12mm).
Now install the drilling table (7) by
means of its fastener onto the column.
Clamp the assembly group in the
required position with the clamp lever
(4).
Now mount the machine housing and
secure it with the grub screws.
Since the spindle has been greased
generously in the factory, allow the
machine to run for approx. 15 minutes
in the lowest gear without load.
Assemble the three lever arms of the
feed handle (3).
Fit the chuck guard (9) on the ring (19).
Tighten the three screws.
Fit the complete chuck guard onto the
spindle and firmly tighten the screw on
the rear side of the chuck guard (9).
The lower part of the safety device can
be adjusted in height.
To achieve this, loosen the wing nuts
(20), position the lower part of the
safety device as required and tighten
the wing nuts again.
Open the drill chuck and fit it on the
cone of the drilling spindle.
Hit the drill chuck several times lightly
with a plastic hammer, in order to
attach the drill chuck firmly to the cone
of the drilling spindle.
Screw the vice (8) firmly to the drilling
table (7) with the vice screws (21),
washers and nuts.
The vice can be fastened to the slotted
holes in different positions.
This allows clamping of various sized
work pieces.
The fixture (inner cone of the drill
chuck) and tapered mandrel must
be absolutely grease-free before
fitting the drill chuck on the
spindle!
Drill mounting
Secure the drilling machine to a
workbench before starting work.
The baseplate (5) is equipped with
drilled holes for this purpose.
Screw the baseplate securely to the
workbench through these drilled holes
with screws.
Use sufficiently large washers, if you
fasten the machine to a wooden plate.
This prevents the nuts pressing into the
wood, which would loosen the machine.
Only tighten the fastening screws
as much as necessary so that the
baseplate does not become
distorted or deformed. Excessive
load bears the risk of breakage.

All bare parts of the machine are
provided with a protective layer, which
prevents corrosion. This protective
layer can be removed easily with
environmentally safe solvents.
Check the V-belt tension, before
connecting the machine to the mains
supply.
Completely degrease the inner cone of
the drill chuck.
Use environmentally safe solvents.
Proceed likewise with the tapered
mandrel of the spindle. Perfect power
transmission is only possible after
proceeding as described.

4. USE, REFERENCES AND
TIPS

1. The drill depth can be set with the
depth stop with scale.
1.1 Loosen the clamping screw of the
drilling table.
1.2 Move the drilling table until the
surface of the clamped work piece
is 3 to 5 mm below the drill bit and
retighten the clamping screw of the
drilling table.
2. Set the drill depth as follows.
2.1 Turn the drill control lever until the
drill bit touches the surface of the
work piece.(Fig. E)
2.2 Turn the scale of the drill depth
setting to 0 (zero point) against the
marking arrow and retighten the
locking screw.
3. You can now drill according to the
display on the scale.
4. If you want to use the depth stop e.g.
for exact repetition drillings, proceed
according to the following steps.
4.1 Put the work piece aside
4.2 Set the drilling depth according to
the display on the scale and hold
the lever in this position. (Fig. F the
depth value in this example is 20
mm)
4.3 Loosen the locking screw. Turn the
display to the end position of the
depth stop (approx. 53 mm) and
tighten the locking screw again.
(Fig. G)
4.4 Return the lever to the original
position. (Within the highest range).
4.5 Put the work piece on the drilling
table. You are now ready to
drill; the drilling depth is set and
automatically limited by the stop.
Note: Always carry out a test drilling
before drilling several work pieces.
A further minor adjustment could be
necessary.

You can clamp drills and other tools
with a cylindrical shank into the drill
chuck of the pillar drill.
The torque is transferred to the drill
by the clamping force of the three
clamping jaws. Clamp the drill with
the toothed ring key (enclosed as
accessory), in order to avoid slip.
Slipping of the drill in the chuck can
very easily result in a burr on the drill
shank, which makes a centric clamping
impossible. Grind such a burr off
before further use of the drill.
Clamping the work piece
The drilling table (7) and the baseplate
(5) of the pillar drill are equipped with
grooves for attaching clamping tools.
Always firmly clamp the work piece
in the clamping tool (8) or with other
clamping tools.
You thereby reduce the risk of
accidents and increase drilling
accuracy, since the work piece cannot
move.

the work piece and drill bit.
You can also swing the drilling table to
the side, if you want to clamp a work
piece directly onto the baseplate.
Swing the drilling table (7) out for
diagonal drillings or if the work piece
has an inclined bearing surface. For
this purpose, loosen the hexagonal
screw (16) on the swivel joint of the
drilling table.
Swivel the drilling table (7) into the
required position.
Tighten the hexagonal screw (16)
again with a fork wrench.
Proceed in the reverse order to return
the drilling table to its original position.

The feed rate - the advance of the drill
- is carried out by hand with the 3-arm
feed handle (3). The cutting speed is
determined by the rotational speed
of the drilling spindle and by the bore
diameter. The correct selection of the
feed rate and rotational spindle speed
are decisive for the service life of the
drill.
The general rule is: The speed must
be reduced with increasing drill
diameter; the more stable the work
piece, the larger the cutting force.
The feed rate and cutting speed
must be reduced simultaneously, in
order to prevent the drill bit becoming
excessively warm.
Additionally, cool the drill bit with
soluble cutting oil. Larger drilled holes
in thin sheet metal must be carried
out carefully with a low feed rate and
cutting force, so that the drill bit does
not get “caught” and the drilled hole
remains true to dimensions.
Chip removal is difficult with deep
drilled holes (larger than 2 x drill bit
diameter) and the drill bit heats up
more.
Reduce the feed rate and speed in
this case and provide for better chip
removal by repeated withdrawal of the
drill bit. Pre-drill drilled holes exceeding
8 mm diameter. This prevents
premature wear of the main drill cutting
edge and does not stress the drill bit
excessively.

Loosen the locking screws (2) on both
sides of the motor housing (1) and
push the motor toward the machine
head; this relieves the tension on the
V-belt.
Move the V-belt according to the table
on the inside of the V-belt cover.
Tension the V-belt again, by pressing
the motor plate (14) to the rear. Then
lock the motor (1) in position again with
the locking screws (2).
Close the V-belt housing and plug the
power plug in. The machine is ready
for use again.
Keep the cover of the V-belt
housing closed during the
operating test. Risk of injury!
The tension is adjusted correctly, if the
V-belt can be pressed in by about 1 cm.
The V-belt pulleys must align horizontally,

5. CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
Disconnect the machine from the
mains, if you must carry out
cleaning or maintenance work on
the machine.Risk of electric
shock!
The machine has been designed to work
over a long period without problems and
with minimum maintenance requirements.
You can extend the service life of your
machine by cleaning it regularly and
treating it professionally.
Cleaning
Clean the machine housing regularly with
a soft cloth, preferably after each use.
Keep dust and dirt out of the ventilation
slots. Remove persistent dirt with a soft
cloth, dampened with soap water. Do not
use solvents, such as gasoline, alcohol,
ammonia, etc. Such materials damage the
plastic parts.
Clean the other parts of the drilling
machine with compressed air or a hand
brush. We recommend cleaning the bright
parts occasionally with environmentally
friendly solvents and then to smear them
with acid-free oil or grease.
Lubricating
This pillar drill does not need additional
lubrication. All bearings and transmissions
are maintenance-free and lubricating for
life.
