Handling and operation
This section provides you with important information on handling and using the
appliance.
Before initial use
Clean all accessories as described in the section “Cleaning” to remove any
possible production residues.
Read these operating instructions carefully.
Set up the appliance in accordance with the safety instructions.
Open the safety catch 4 by moving the slider from the position to the
position.
Clean the appliance with a damp cloth as described in “Cleaning and Care”.
Close the appliance.
Insert the mains cable plug 3 in a properly connected and earthed mains
power socket which supplies the voltage stated in the”Technical data” section.
Allow the appliance to heat up for about 5 minutes on the maximum temperature
setting by turning the heat level control 2 as far as the right-hand stop.
NOTE
The fi rst time the appliance heats up, a small amount of smoke and odour
may be generated due to production-related residue. This is normal and is
completely harmless. Provide suffi cient ventilation; for example, by opening
a window.
After heating, pull the plug out of the mains socket and allow the appliance to
cool down completely.
Clean the appliance again with a damp cloth.
Operation
Close the appliance lid using the handle 6.
Slide the fat collector tray 7 into the appliance.
Replace the plug in the mains mains power socket. The green “Ready” control
lamp 5 lights up when the heat level control 2 is set to “0” (
).
Set the desired level on the heat level control 2. The green “Ready” control lamp
5 goes out and the red “Power” control light 1 lights up. As soon as the set heat-
ing level has been reached, the red “Power” control light 1 goes out and the
green “Ready” control lamp 5 lights up again.

NOTE
The green control lamp "Ready" 5 lights up when the heat level control 2 is
set at "0". As soon as you set the heat level control 2 to the desired position,
the green "Ready" control lamp 5 goes out until the temperature has been
reached.
NOTE
The green "Ready" control lamp 5 may go out intermittently in the meantime
and the red "Power" control lamp 1 lights up. This indicates that the temperature
has briefl y fallen below the set temperature and the appliance is heating itself
back up.
Open the lid and place the food to be toasted/grilled on the lower hotplate 9.
Close the appliance lid using the handle 6.
Due to the sliding hinges fi tted to the upper hotplate 9, it always lies parallel
to the lower hotplate 9 even with large quantities of food. This guarantees an
optimal grilling result.
Check the browning of the food after a while. To do this, open the appliance
lid using the handle 6.
NOTE
Start with short grilling times and increase these until you have found the cor-
rect duration.
When you are satisfi ed with the level of browning, remove the food.
CAUTION
Damage to the appliance!
Do not use pointed or sharp objects to remove the food. These could dam-
age the surfaces of the hotplates 9!
Turn the heat level control 2 to “0” and remove the plug from the power socket.
CAUTION
Always remove the plug from the mains power socket when the appliance is
not in use! Setting the heat level control 2 to "0" is not enough!

Tips and tricks
To make meat more tender and speed up the grilling process, you can
marinate it beforehand. An ideal basis for this can be sour cream, red wine,
vinegar, buttermilk or fresh papaya or pineapple juice, for example. Add
herbs and spices according to taste. Do not add salt as this can draw water
out of the meat and make it dry. Place the meat in the marinade so that it is
completely covered and close the container. Ideally, leave it overnight.
The hotplates 9 have a non-stick coating, therefore extra fat is not necessary.
If you wish to use fat anyway, please ensure that the fat/oil is suitable for
cooking, e.g. rapeseed oil.
If you are not sure whether the food is cooked all the way through, you can
use a commercially available meat thermometer.

CAUTION
Damage to the appliance!
To avoid irreparable damage to the appliance, ensure that no moisture
gets into it during cleaning.
When cleaning the surfaces use neither abrasive or chemical cleaners, nor
sharp or scratchy objects.
Draw the cleaning scraper 0 over the hotplates 9 after the hotplates 9
have cooled down so that the fat and residues are pushed together and can
be more easily removed.
Wipe the hotplates 9 with a damp cloth. For stubborn soiling use a mild
detergent on the cloth. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents, rough
sponges or sharp objects for cleaning as these could damage the non-stick
coating.
For stubborn crusting, lay a wet cloth on the baked-on residues to soften
them.
A damp cloth is suffi cient for cleaning the exterior surfaces.
Ensure that all parts are completely dry before re-using the appliance.
Wipe the cleaning scraper 0 with a damp cloth. For stubborn soiling use a mild
detergent on the cloth.
Storage
Store the cleaned appliance in a dry location. Close the safety catch 4.
