5 Intended use

The multi gas leak detector (ref. no. 8885100124) is an electronic leak

indicator for identifying leaks in air conditioning systems. The device is

designed for detecting refrigerants and forming gases.

This product is only suitable for the intended purpose and application in

accordance with these instructions.

This manual provides information that is necessary for proper installation

and/or operation of the product. Poor installation and/or improper operating

or maintenance will result in unsatisfactory performance and a possible fail-

ure.

The manufacturer accepts no liability for any injury or damage to the product

resulting from:

Incorrect assembly or connection, including excess voltage

Incorrect maintenance or use of spare parts other than original spare

parts provided by the manufacturer

6 Technical description

The multi gas leak detector is equipped with a sensor.

The sensor detects leaks. Three LEDs indicate the presence of refrigerant

R1234yf. Three LEDs indicate the presence of refrigerant R134a, all other

HFC, HCFC, HFO and CFC gases and gas mixtures (SF6), as well as tracer

gas/forming gas (95/5 nitrogen/hydrogen).

Leaks are indicated by a beep with different pitches through a loudspeaker.

An LED bar graph shows the size of the leak and ensures the precise location

of the leak. Four different levels of sensitivity can be set for each refrigerant.

The device switches off automatically if it is not used for 10 minutes.

7.3 Setting the sensitivity

The device has four sensitivity levels with increasing sensitivity per

refrigerant (R1234yf or R134a):

➤Press the start button (fig. 24, page 2) to select the sensitivity level or

to switch between the R1234yf and R134a modes.

7.4 Detecting leaks

A

NOTE

The leak detector responds to all standard refrigerants. If you

use a different refrigerant to R134a or R1234yf, select the

R134a mode.

Sensitivity level L and R134a mode are preset.

If you use the leak detector in a heavily soiled area, press the

start button again after switching on. The device then switches

to a mode for heavily soiled areas. This is indicated by a low-

pitched beep which gets louder as soon as a leak is detected.

NOTICE!

In damp areas, use the sensor tip for damp environments

(fig. 16, page 2), to protect the sensor from moisture.

Make sure the sensor is not damaged by dirt or moisture.

Clean the dirty area and remove the moisture.

1. Check all visible surfaces of the air conditioning system for any loss of

lubricant, damage and corrosion.

2. Switch on the leak detector with the start button (fig. 24, page 2)

(chapter “Switching on the leak detector” on page 8).

✔The device warms up briefly.

3. Select a suitable sensitivity level for the size of the leak anticipated.

4. Insert the sensor head as close as possible, and at low speed (3

cm/sec), to the components that are to be examined for leaks.

5. Remove the sealing caps of the service connections and check the

service connections for tightness.

6. Make sure you perform the test without any interruptions.

✔When a leak is detected, a beep is emitted.

7.5 Switching off the leak detector

➤Press the start button (fig. 24, page 2) until the display goes off.

✔The device is switched off.

NOTE

Make sure the air conditioning system is switched off. How-

ever, there must be a minimum of 3.5 bar in the system to be

able to find leaks. If the minimum pressure is not reached, you

will need to use other ways to detect leaks.

Make sure that any other gases or chemicals are not released

into the area being searched which the device will respond to.

Some common vehicle cleaners contain chemicals or exude

gases. Remove dirt and any chemicals that could cause a

false reading.

Only carry out leak detection when the motor is switched off.

NOTE

If the leak detector has already triggered an alarm due to a

major leak, ensure adequate ventilation so that minor leaks

can also be detected.

If a leak has been identified at the lowest sensitivity level, run

another scanning process with the next level of sensitivity to

determine the size of the leak more precisely.

1. Unscrew the sensor cap (fig. 31, page 3) anticlockwise from the sen-

sor head.

2. Take out the sensor (fig. 33, page 3) with tweezers or needle-nose

pliers.

3. If necessary, remove any dirt from the O-ring in the socket (fig. 34,

page 3). Use a dry cloth to do this without any solvent or similar agents.

4. Insert the new sensor in the socket (fig. 35, page 3).

5. Screw the sensor cap (fig. 31, page 3) clockwise onto the sensor

head.

9 Replacing the filter

1. Unscrew the sensor cap (fig. 31, page 3) anticlockwise from the sen-

sor head.

2. Take out the filter (fig. 32, page 3) with tweezers or needle-nose pliers.

3. Insert a new filter.

CAUTION! Beware of burns

Switch off the leak detector and let the sensor head cool down

before replacing the sensor.

NOTICE!

Do not use silicone-based or acetone soaps or lotions before and

while you replace the sensor. This can damage the function of the

sensor.

NOTE

The electrochemical sensor has a service life of approximately

100 operating hours. After this time, the sensor must be replaced.

CAUTION! Beware of burns

Switch off the leak detector and let the sensor head cool down

before replacing the filter.

NOTE

Replace the filter if it is blocked or dirty.

4. Screw the sensor cap (fig. 31, page 3) clockwise onto the sensor

head.

10 Replacing the batteries

1. Replace the batteries when the green LED (fig. 23, page 2) does not

light up.

2. Gently push down the lid of the battery compartment on the back and

slide it open in the direction of the arrow.

3. Insert the new batteries (3 x type C) in the battery compartment. Make

sure the polarity of the batteries is correct.

4. Close the lid of the battery compartment.

11 Cleaning and maintenance

➤Occasionally clean the product with a damp cloth.

12 Warranty

The statutory warranty period applies. If the product is defective, please

contact your retailer or the manufacturer's branch in your country (see

dometic.com/dealer).

For repair and warranty processing, please include the following documents

when you send in the product:

A copy of the receipt with purchasing date

A reason for the claim or description of the fault

Note that self-repair or non-professional repair can have safety conse-

quences and might void the warranty.

NOTICE!

Do not use sharp or hard objects or cleaning agents for

cleaning as these may damage the product.

Recycling products with batteries, rechargeable batteries and light

sources

➤Place the packaging material in the appropriate recycling waste bins

wherever possible.

➤Consult a local recycling center or specialist dealer for details about

how to dispose of the product in accordance with the applicable dis-

posal regulations.

➤Remove any batteries, rechargeable batteries, and light sources

before recycling the product.

➤Return defective or used batteries to your retailer or dispose of them

at collection points.

➤Do not dispose of any batteries, rechargeable batteries, and light

sources with general household waste.

➤If you wish to finally dispose of the product, ask your local recycling

Das Multi Gas-Lecksuchgerät (Art.-Nr. 8885100124) ist ein elektronischer

Leckdetektor zum Erkennen von Lecks an Klimaanlagen. Das Gerät ist aus-

gelegt zur Erkennung von Kältemitteln und Formiergasen.

Dieses Produkt ist nur für den angegebenen Verwendungszweck und die

Anwendung gemäß dieser Anleitung geeignet.

Dieses Handbuch enthält Informationen, die für die ordnungsgemäße Instal-

lation und/oder den ordnungsgemäßen Betrieb des Produkts erforderlich

sind. Installationsfehler und/oder ein nicht ordnungsgemäßer Betrieb oder

eine nicht ordnungsgemäße Wartung haben eine unzureichende Leistung

und u. U. einen Ausfall des Geräts zur Folge.

6 Technische Beschreibung

Das Multi Gas-Lecksuchgerät ist ein Lecksuchgerät mit Sensor.

Der Sensor erfasst Lecks. Drei LEDs zeigen das Vorhandensein des Kälte-

mittels R1234yf an. Drei LEDs zeigen das Vorhandensein des Kältemittels

R134a, aller anderen HFC-, HCFC-, HFO- und CFC-Gase und Gasgemische

(SF6) sowie von Tracergas/Formiergas (95/5 Nitrogen/Hydrogen) an.

Lecks werden durch einen Signalton mit unterschiedlicher Tonhöhe über

einen Lautsprecher angezeigt. Eine LED- Balkenanzeige zeigt die Größe des

Lecks an und ermöglicht es, dessen genaue Lage ausfindig zu machen. Vier

verschiedene Empfindlichkeitsstufen je Kältemittel können eingestellt

werden.

schalten.

✔Das Gerät regeneriert den Sensor 35 Sekunden lang.

✔Die LED-Balkenanzeige leuchtet mehrmals von links nach rechts auf.

HINWEIS

Nach 10 Minuten ohne Eingabe schaltet sich das Gerät automatisch ab.

7.3 Empfindlichkeit einstellen

Das Gerät verfügt je Kältemittel (R1234yf oder R134a) über vier

Sensitivitätsstufen mit aufsteigender Sensitivität:

➤Drücken Sie den Start-Knopf (Abb. 24, Seite 2), um die Sensitivitäts-

stufe auszuwählen oder zwischen Modus R1234yf und Modus R134a zu

wechseln.

HINWEIS

Das Lecksuchgerät reagiert auf alle handeslüblichen Kälte-

mittel. Sollten Sie ein anderes Kältemittel als R134a oder

R1234yf verwenden, so wählen Sie den Modus R134a.

Sensitivitätsstufe L und der Modus R134a sind voreingestellt.

Falls Sie das Lecksuchgerät in einem stark verschmutzten

Bereich verwenden, drücken Sie den Start-Knopf noch einmal

nach dem Einschalten. Das Gerät wechselt dann in einen

Modus für stark verschmutzte Bereiche. Dies wird angezeigt

durch einen niedrigeren Signalton, der lauter wird, sobald ein

Leck ermittelt wurde.

7.4 Leck suchen

1. Untersuchen Sie alle sichtbaren Bereiche des Klimasystems auf

Schmiermittelverlust, Beschädigung und Korrosion.

2. Schalten Sie das Lecksuchgerät mit dem Start-Knopf (Abb. 24,

Seite 2) ein (siehe Kapitel „Lecksuchgerät einschalten“ auf Seite18).

✔Das Gerät erwärmt sich kurz.

3. Wählen Sie je nach vermuteter Leckgröße die geeignete Sensitivitäts-

stufe.

ACHTUNG!

Verwenden Sie in feuchten Bereichen die Sensorspitze für

feuchte Umgebungen (Abb. 16, Seite 2), um den Sensor vor

Nässe zu schützen.

Achten Sie darauf, den Sensor nicht durch Schmutz oder

Feuchtigkeit zu beschädigen. Reinigen Sie schmutzige

Bereiche und entfernen Sie Feuchtigkeit.

HINWEIS

Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Klimaanlage ausgeschaltet ist. Es

muss jedoch ein Mindestdruck von 3,5 bar im System vor-

liegen, um Lecks finden zu können. Wenn dieser Mindest-

druck nicht erreicht wird, müssen Sie andere

Lecksuchmethoden verwenden.

Stellen Sie sicher, das in der Suchumgebung keine weiteren

Gase oder Chemikalien ausströmen, auf die das Gerät

reagiert. Einige gängige Fahrzeugreiniger enthalten solche

Chemikalien oder strömen solche Gase aus. Entfernen Sie

Verschmutzungen und eventuelle Chemikalien, die eine

Falschanzeige hervorrufen könnten.

Führen Sie die Lecksuche nur bei ausgeschaltetem Motor

durch.

HINWEIS

Sollte das Lecksuchgerät bereits aufgrund größerer Lecks

Alarm auslösen, sorgen Sie für ausreichende Belüftung,

sodass auch kleinere Lecks erfasst werden können.

Sollte ein Leck mittels niedrigster Sensitivitätsstufe ermittelt

worden sein, führen Sie einen weiteren Prüfvorgang mit der

nächsthöheren Sensitivitätsstufe durch, um die Größe des

Lecks näher zu bestimmen.
