Safety, performance, and dependability have been given

top priority in the design of your petrol lawn mower.

INTENDED USE

The petrol lawn mower is intended for domestic lawn

mowing. The cutting blade should rotate approximately

parallel to the ground over which it is being wheeled. All

four wheels should touch the ground while mowing. It is a

pedestrian-controlled walk-behind mower.

The mower should never be operated with the wheels off

the ground; it should not be pulled or ridden on. It should

not be used to cut anything other than domestic grass

lawns.

GENERAL SAFETY RULES

WARNING

To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and

understand the operator’s manual.

WARNING

Do not attempt to operate the product until you have read

thoroughly and understood completely all instructions,

safety rules, etc. contained in this manual. Failure to

comply with all instructions and warnings may result in

accidents involving electric shock, fire, and/or serious

personal injury.

PERSONAL SAFETY

■The product is capable of amputating hands and feet,

and throwing objects. Failure to observe all safety

instructions could result in serious injury or death.

■Never allow children or people with reduced physical,

sensory, or mental capabilities, or unfamiliar with the

instructions to use the product. Local regulations may

restrict the age of the operator. Children should be

adequately supervised to ensure they don’t play with

the product.

■Ensure before each use that all controls and safety

devices function correctly. Do not use the product if the

“off” switch does not stop the engine.

■Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common

sense when operating the product. Do not operate the

product when tired or under the influence of drugs,

alcohol, or medication. A lapse in concentration while

operating the product may result in serious personal

injury.

■Wear heavy, long trousers, long sleeves, slip-resistant

foot protection, and gloves. Do not wear loose fitting

clothing, short trousers, sandals, or go barefoot.

■Wear hearing protection and safety glasses at all

times while operating the product. Use a face mask if

operation is dusty.

■Use of hearing protection reduces the ability to hear

warnings (shouts or alarms). The operator must pay

extra attention to what is going on in the work area.

■Operating similar tools nearby increases both the risk

of hearing injury and the potential for other persons to

enter your work area.

■Always be sure of your footing, especially on slopes.

Keep firm footing and balance. Do not overreach.

Overreaching can result in loss of balance.

■Walk, never run.

■Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.

Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on

slopes.

■Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, excessively steep

slopes, or embankments. Poor footing could cause a

slip-and-fall accident.

■Plan your mowing pattern to avoid discharge of material

toward roads, public pavements, bystanders and

the like. Avoid discharging material against a wall or

obstruction, which may cause the material to ricochet

toward the operator.

WORK AREA SAFETY

■Keep all bystanders, children, and pets at least 15 m

away from work area. If anyone enters the work area,

stop the machine.

■Do not operate in poor lighting. The operator requires a

clear view of the work area to identify potential hazards.

■Do not operate the machine in explosive atmospheres,

such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or

dust. The product may create sparks which can ignite

the dust or fumes.

■Objects struck by the lawn mower blade can cause

severe injuries to persons. Thoroughly inspect the area

where the product is to be used and remove all rocks,

sticks, metal, wire, bones, toys, or other foreign objects.

■Do not operate the product in wet grass or in the rain.

■Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible

for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or

their property.

■Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to

the presence of children. Children are often attracted to

the product and the mowing activity. Never assume that

children will remain where you last saw them.

■Keep children out of the work area and under the

watchful care of a responsible adult other than the

operator.

■Use extra care when approaching blind corners,

shrubs, trees, or other objects that may block your view.

■Keep work area clean. Cluttered or dark areas invite

accidents.

LAWN MOWER SAFETY WARNINGS

■Before using, always visually inspect to ensure blades,

blade bolts, and cutter assembly are not worn or

damaged. Check the product before each use and

frequently during operation.

■Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to

preserve balance.

■Check all nuts, bolts, and screws at frequent intervals

for proper tightness to be sure the equipment is in safe

working condition.

■Check the grass catcher frequently for wear, holes

or deterioration. This can cause objects to be thrown

towards the operator.

■Replace worn or damaged parts before operating the

product.

■Never operate the mower if the power lever, when

released, does not stop the engine.

■Do not operate the product without the entire grass

catcher or the guard of the self-closing discharge

opening in place.

■Do not use the product when there is a risk of lightning.

■Do not force the product. It will do the job better and

safer at the speed for which it was designed.

■Do not overload the product. Mowing long, thick grass

may cause the motor speed to drop or the power to cut

out. When mowing in long thick grass, a first cut with

the cutting height set high will help reduce the load. See

Adjusting the Blade Height.

■Stop the blade when crossing gravel surfaces.

■Do not pull the product backward unless absolutely

necessary. If you must back the product away from a

wall or obstruction, first look down and behind to avoid

tripping or pulling the product over your feet.

■Stop the blade(s) if the machine has to be tilted for

transportation when crossing surfaces other than grass,

and when transporting the machine to and from the

area to be mowed.

■Never operate the product with defective guards

or shields, or without safety devices, for example,

deflectors or grass collector, or both, in place.

■Carefully start the engine according to instructions and

keep hands and feet away from the cutting area. Keep

clear of the discharge opening at all times.

■Never pick up or carry the product while the engine is

running.

■Avoid holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, property stakes, or

other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could cause a

slip-and-fall accident.

■When not in use, mower should be stored in a well-

ventilated, dry, locked up place, out of the reach of

children.

■Follow manufacturer’s instructions for proper operation

and installation of accessories. Only use accessories

approved by the manufacturer.

■Do not operate the engine in a confined space where

dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect.

■Do not change the engine governor settings or over-

speed the engine.

■Do not tilt the lawn mower when starting the engine or

while the engine is running. This exposes the blade and

increases the probability of objects being thrown.

■Do not start the engine when standing in front of the

discharge chute.

■Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire, wait

until the blade comes to a complete stop, and allow the

product to cool down for the following cases:

●whenever you leave the product unattended

●before cleaning a blockage or unclogging the chute

●before checking, cleaning, or working on the product

●after striking a foreign object; inspect the appliance

for damage and make repairs as necessary before

restarting and operating the machine.

●before clearing the grass catcher

●before refuelling

■If the product starts to vibrate abnormally (check

immediately):

●inspect for damage

●replace or repair any damaged parts

●check for and tighten any loose parts

■If the product strikes a foreign object, follow these

steps:

●Stop the product and disconnect the spark plug

wire.

●Thoroughly inspect the mower and grass catcher

for any damage.

●Repair any damage before restarting and continuing

to operate the mower.

■Allow engine to cool down before storing in any

enclosure.

■To reduce the risk of fire, keep the engine, silencer, and

petrol storage area free of grass, leaves, and excessive

grease.

■If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done

outdoors.

■Disconnect the spark plug before making any

adjustment, transporting, or storing the lawn mower.

Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of

starting the product accidentally.

■This machine is extremely noisy and permanent hearing

loss or damage may result if precautions to limit your

exposure, reduce noise and wear hearing protection

are not strictly adhered to.

SERVICE

■Service on the product must be performed by qualified

repair personnel only. Service or maintenance

performed by unqualified personnel could result in a

risk of injury to the user, or damage to the machine.

■When servicing, use only original manufacturer’s

replacement parts. Use of unauthorised parts may

create a risk of serious injury to the user, or damage

to the product.

NOTE: Only perform the tasks listed in this manual. For

other service or repair, bring the product to an authorised

service centre.

Save this manual for future reference. Refer to them

frequently and use them to instruct others who may use

the product. If you loan the product to someone, loan them

these instructions also.

interpretation of these symbols will allow you to operate the

Precautions that involve your safety.

To reduce the risk of injury, the

Keep all body parts and clothing clear

of any belts or other moving parts.

To avoid injury, stay away from moving

parts at all times.

Keep the work area free from wires

and cables. Failure to do so can cause

serious injury.

Danger! Keep hands and feet away.

You may only make adjustments or

repairs described in this manual. For

other repairs, contact the authorised

service centre.

Keep hands away from blade.

Danger of ricochet. Keep all bystanders

at least 15 m away.

To reduce the risk of injury, avoid

contact with any hot surface.

Do not smoke and stay away from

open fl ames and sparks when fi lling

fuel tank or when handling fuel.

Mow when the catcher is empty

Stop mowing when the catcher is full.

Do not touch the hot metal surface.

Beware of sharp blades.

Blades continue to rotate after the

engine is turned off – Remove spark

plug socket before maintenance.

Loosen fuel cap slowly to release

pressure and to keep petrol from

escaping around the cap.

Carefully pour petrol into the tank.

Push the primer bulb 3 times.

Hold the power lever down against the

handle.

Pull the starter cord until the engine

runs.

Mow across the surface of the slope.

Avoid mowing up and down.

Remove objects that could be thrown

by the rotating blade.

Keep bystanders a safe distance away

from the product.

Fuel and its vapours are explosive and

can cause severe burns or death.

Fuel and its vapors are extremely

fl ammable and explosive. Fire can

cause severe burns or death.

Use unleaded petrol intended for motor

vehicle use with an octane rating of 87

[(R + M)/2] or higher.

Use SAE 30 or 10W-30 API-SJ weight

oil.

RESIDUAL RISKS

Even when the product is used as prescribed, it is still

impossible to completely eliminate certain residual risk

factors. The following hazards may arise in use and the

operator should pay special attention to avoid the following:

■Injury caused by vibration. Always use the right tool for

the job, use designated handles, and restrict working

time and exposure.

■Hearing injury caused by exposure to noise. Wear

hearing protection and limit exposure

■Injury caused by contact with the blades

■Injury caused by thrown objects

RISK REDUCTION

It has been reported that vibrations from handheld tools

may contribute to a condition called Raynaud’s Syndrome.

Symptoms may include tingling, numbness, and blanching

of the fingers, usually apparent upon exposure to cold.

Hereditary factors, exposure to cold and dampness, diet,

smoking, and work practices are all thought to contribute to

the development of these symptoms. There are measures

that can be taken by the operator to possibly reduce the

effects of vibration:

■Keep your body warm in cold weather. When operating

the product, wear gloves to keep the hands and wrists

warm.

■After each period of operation, exercise to increase

blood circulation.

■Take frequent work breaks. Limit the amount of

exposure per day.

If you experience any of the symptoms of this condition,

immediately discontinue use and see your doctor.

WARNING

Injuries may be caused or aggravated by prolonged use

of a tool. When using any tool for prolonged periods,

ensure you take regular breaks.

WARNING

To avoid serious personal injury, do not attempt

to use the product until you read thoroughly and

understand completely the operator’s manual. If you

do not understand the warnings and instructions in the

operator’s manual, do not use the product. Call the

authorised service centre for assistance.

ASSEMBLY

UNPACKING

The product requires assembly.

■Carefully inspect the product to make sure no breakage

or damage occurred during shipping.

■If any parts are damaged or missing, please call your

Ryobi service centre for assistance.

WARNING

If any parts are damaged or missing, do not operate the

product until the parts are replaced. Using a product

with damaged or missing parts could result in serious

personal injury.

WARNING

Do not attempt to modify the product or create

accessories not recommended for use with the product.

Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could

result in a hazardous condition leading to possible

serious personal injury.

WARNING

The product safety systems or features shall not be

tampered with or disabled.

WARNING

Never attach or adjust any accessory while the product

is running. Failure to stop the engine may cause

serious personal injury.

WARNING

To prevent accidental starting that could cause serious

personal injury, always disconnect the engine spark

plug wire from the spark plug when assembling parts.

WARNING

Never operate the mower without the proper safety

devices in place and working. Never operate the mower

with damaged safety devices. Operation of this product

with damaged or missing parts could result in serious

personal injury.

INSTALLATION

See figure 2.

1. Place handles in correct operating position. Ensure the

locking pin on the lower handle is inserted in the hole

of the bracket.

2. Place the quick-release fasteners and tighten the quick-

release knobs to secure.

NOTE: Do not pinch the cable.

3. Place the cable retainer on the handle.

4. Place the cables in the cable retainer.

5. Place starter rope in guide on handle.

6. Install grass catcher or mulching plug.

INSTALLING THE MULCHING PLUG (FOR MULCHING

OPERATION)

See figure 3.

NOTE: When using the mulching plug, do not install the

grass catcher.

1. Lift and hold up the rear discharge door.

2. Grasp the mulching plug by its handle and insert it at a

slight angle, as shown.

3. Push the mulching plug securely into place.

4. Lower the rear discharge door.

ASSEMBLING THE GRASS CATCHER

1. Slide plastic clips over the metal frame.

2. Snap the rest of the grass catcher parts into place.

INSTALLING THE GRASS CATCHER (FOR REAR BAG-

GING OPERATION)

See figure 4.

NOTE: When using the grass catcher, do not install either

the side discharge deflector or the mulching plug. Also,

ensure side discharge door is closed securely.

1. Lift the rear discharge door.

2. Lift the grass catcher by its handle and place under the

rear door, so that the hooks on the grass catcher frame

are seated on the hinge rod of the rear door.

3. Release the rear door. When installed correctly, the

hooks on the grass catcher will rest securely on the

hinge rod of the rear door.

4. Ensure the rear door is fully engaged on the grass

catcher. Make sure that there is no gap between the

rear door and the grass catcher.

INSTALLING SIDE DISCHARGE DEFLECTOR (FOR

SIDE DISCHARGE OPERATION)

See figure 9.

NOTE: When using the side discharge deflector, do not

install the grass catcher. The mulching plug should remain

installed.

NOTE: When the side discharge deflector is not used,

ensure that the side discharge door is in lock position.

1. Push down the locking mechanism by one hand and lift

the side discharge door with another hand.

2. Align the hooks on the deflector with the hinge rod on

the underside of the door.

3. Lower the deflector until the hooks are secured on the

mulch door hinge rod.

4. Release the deflector and side discharge door.

NOTE: After each use, clean and inspect the locking

mechanism if it is still functioning properly.

OPERATION

FUEL AND REFUELLING

WARNING

Always handle petrol with care; it is highly flammable.

■Use fresh fuel.

■Store fuel in containers specifically designed for this

purpose.

■Always refuel outdoors where there are no sparks and

flames. Do not inhale fuel vapour. Do not smoke. Stay

away from open flames and sparks when filling fuel tank

or when handling fuel.

■Do not let petrol or oil come in contact with your skin.

■Keep petrol and oil away from the eyes. If petrol or oil

comes in contact with the eyes, wash them immediately

with clean water. If irritation is still present, see a doctor

immediately.

■Immediately clean up spilled petrol.

FILLING THE TANK

See figure 5.

WARNING

Always shut off engine and allow it to cool for 5 minutes

before refuelling. Never remove the cap of the fuel tank

or add petrol to a machine with a running or hot engine.

Move at least 9 m (30 ft) from refuelling site before

starting the engine. Do not smoke. Failure to heed this

warning could result in serious personal injury.

WARNING

Do not overfill. Fill the fuel tank to 25 mm below the top

of the fuel neck. After fueling, never tilt the mower more

than 25 degrees for this could result in fuel leakage and

risk of fire, etc.

1. Clean surface around the fuel cap to prevent

contamination.

2. Slowly loosen the fuel cap to release pressure and to

keep fuel from escaping around the cap. Rest the cap

on a clean surface.

3. Carefully pour petrol into the tank. Avoid spillage.

4. Clean and inspect the gasket. Replace and secure all

fuel and container caps.

5. Wipe up any fuel spillage. Move 9 m away from the

refuelling site before starting the engine.

NOTE: It is normal for smoke to be emitted from a new

engine during and after first use.

ADDING/CHECKING ENGINE OIL

See figure 5.

Engine oil has a major influence on engine performance

and service life. For general, all-temperature use, SAE

10W-30 is recommended. Always use a 4-cycle motor oil

that meets or exceeds the requirements for API service

classification SJ.

NOTE: Non-detergent or 2-cycle engine oils will damage

the engine and should not be used.

To add engine oil:

1. Be sure the mower is level and the area around the oil

cap/dipstick is clean.

2. Remove the cap and the seal from the oil bottle.

3. Open the oil cap/dipstick by turning it 90°

counterclockwise. Remove the oil cap/dipstick.

4. Slowly add oil. Fill to the “Full” line on the dipstick. Do

not overfill.

NOTE: When checking the oil level, seat the dipstick in the

oil fill hole but do not screw in.

5. Reinstall and secure the oil cap/dipstick by turning it

90° clockwise.

To check engine oil:

■Be sure mower is level and area around oil cap/dipstick

is clean.

■Remove the oil cap/dipstick. Wipe clean and reseat in

the oil fill hole but do not screw in.

■Remove the oil cap/dipstick again and check the oil

level. Add oil as needed.

STARTING OR STOPPING THE MOWER

See figure 5.

WARNING

Never start or run the engine inside a closed or poorly

ventilated area; breathing exhaust fumes can kill.

NOTE: The engine is provided with a shut-off valve. Turn

the fuel off at the conclusion of mowing.

Starting the engine

1. Open the fuel valve.

2. Press the primer bulb 3 times.

NOTE: This step is not usually necessary when starting

an engine that has already run for a few minutes.

3. Hold the power lever bar down against the handle.

4. Pull the starter grip until the engine starts. Slowly

release the starter cord so that the rope does not snap

back.

NOTE: It may be necessary to repeat the priming steps

in cooler weather. In warmer weather, overpriming may

cause flooding and the engine will not start. If you do

flood the engine, wait a few minutes before attempting

to start and do not repeat priming steps.

Stopping the engine

1. Release the power lever and allow the engine to come

to a complete stop.

2. Close the fuel valve.

PROPELLING THE PRODUCT

See figure 6.

■To self-propel: Hold down the power lever while slowly

pulling the self-propel bail towards the handle. Release

the self-propel bail to stop the wheel drive.

■To manually propel: Hold down the power lever. Do not

engage the self-propel bail.

NOTE: The product will start to run when the self-propel

bail is engaged.

SETTING BLADE HEIGHT

See figure 7.

When shipped, the wheels on the mower are set to a low-

cutting position. Before using the mower for the first time,

adjust the cutting position to the height best suited for your

lawn. The average lawn should be between 38 mm to 50

mm during cool months and between 50 mm and 76 mm

during hot months.

To set the blade height:

■Stop the product and wait for the blade to come to a

complete stop.

■To raise the blade height, grasp the height adjustment

lever and move it toward the back of the mower.

■To lower the blade height, grasp the height adjustment

lever and move it toward the front of the mower.

SETTING HANDLE HEIGHT AND ANGLE

See figure 8.

The height of the handle can be easily adjusted for operator

preference.

To adjust the handle height:

■Remove the quick-release knob.

■Slide out the quick-release lever and adjust the height

to the other opening.

■Reinstall the quick-release fastener. Tighten the quick-

release knob.

■Repeat on the other side of the handle.

To adjust the handle angle:

■Release the lower quick-release fasteners.

■Change the handle angle according to preference.

Ensure the locking pin on the lower handle is inserted

in the hole of the bracket.

NOTE: The product has a 3-point handle angle

adjustment setting.

■Reinstall the lower quick-release fasteners.

MOWING TIPS

■Make sure the lawn mower mowing area is clear of

stones, sticks, wires, and other objects that could

damage the lawn mower blades or engine. Such

objects could be accidentally thrown by the mower in

any direction and cause serious personal injury to the

operator and others.

■For best performance, always cut off one-third or less of

the total height of the grass.

■When cutting long grass, reduce walking speed to allow

for more effective cutting and a proper discharge of the

clippings.

■Do not cut wet grass, it will stick to the underside of the

deck and prevent proper bagging or mulching of grass

clippings.

■New or thick grass may require a higher cutting height

and a narrower cutting path.

■Clean the underside of the mower deck after each use

to remove grass clippings, leaves, dirt, and any other

accumulated debris. Refer to “Cleaning the underside

of the mower deck” section.

SLOPE OPERATION TIPS

See figure 10.

■Slopes are a major factor related to slip-and-fall

accidents that can result in severe injury. Operation on

slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a

slope, do not mow it. For your safety, do not attempt to

mow slopes greater than 15 degrees. Do not use the

drive wheels when mowing on slopes.

■Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.

Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on

slopes.

■Watch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps

which can cause you to slip or trip. Tall grass can hide

obstacles. Remove all objects such as rocks, tree limbs,

etc., which could be tripped over or thrown by the blade.

■Always be sure of your footing. A slip and a fall can

cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing

your balance, immediately release the power lever.

■Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments;

you could lose your footing or balance.

EMPTYING THE GRASS CATCHER

See figure 11.

1. Stop the product and wait for the blade to come to a

complete stop.

2. Lift the rear discharge door.

3. Grasp grass catcher by its handle and lift to remove

from the product.

4. Empty grass clippings.

5. Lift the rear discharge door and reinstall the grass

catcher.

WARNING

Use extreme caution when lifting or tilting the product for

maintenance, cleaning, storage or transportation. The

blade is sharp. Even though the engine is shut off, the

blades can still be moved. Keep all body parts away from

the blade while it is exposed.

MAINTENANCE

After releasing the power lever, regularly check if the

blade stops in 3 seconds.

WARNING

If the product is not maintained correctly, the life span of

the product may be reduced, and built-in safety features

may not function correctly, thus increasing the potential

for serious injury. Keep the product in good working

condition.

Before performing any maintenance, stop the product,

allow the blade to come to a complete stop, and

disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.

Failure to heed this warning could result in serious

WARNING

When servicing, use only authorised replacement parts.

Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause

product damage.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

You may make adjustments and repairs described here.

For other repairs, contact the authorised service agent.

■Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most

plastics are susceptible to damage from various types

of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their

use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease,

etc.

■Periodically check all nuts and bolts for proper tightness

to ensure safe operation of the product.

■Remove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around

the engine and engine cover. Occasionally wipe the

mower clean with a dry cloth. Do not use water.

■Frequently check the grass catcher for wear or

deterioration.

WARNING

Do not, at any time, let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-

based products, penetrating oils, etc. come in contact

with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken, or

destroy plastic which may result in serious personal

injury.

CLEANING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MOWER DECK

1. Raise the mower to full height.

2. Connect a female water hose connector (not supplied)

to the male hose connector on the mower deck.

3. Turn on the water supply.

4. Start the mower and run at full revolutions, but do not

engage the self-propel bail.

5. Run the engine in place for approximately 30 seconds.

6. Shut off the engine.

7. Turn off the water supply.

8. Inspect the underside of the mower deck for cleanliness,

and repeat the cleaning procedure if desired.

LUBRICATION

All of the bearings in the product are lubricated with a

sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the

product under normal operating conditions. Therefore, no

further bearing lubrication is required.

WARNING

Always protect hands by wearing heavy gloves or wrapping

the cutting edges of the blade with rags and other material,

or both, when performing blade maintenance. Contact

with the blade could result in serious personal injury.

REPLACING THE CUTTING BLADE

See figure 12.

When making adjustments, be careful not to entrap your

fingers between moving blades and fixed parts of the

product.

For best results, the mower blade must be kept sharp.

Immediately replace a bent or damaged blade.

WARNING

Only use replacement blades approved by the

manufacturer of the product. Using a blade not approved

by the manufacturer of the product is hazardous and

could result in serious injury, damage to the product, and

will void your warranty.

WARNING

Drain the fuel first before tilting the product to replace

the blade.

1. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.

Allow the blade to come to a complete stop.

2. Turn the product on its side (air filter facing up).

3. Wedge a block of wood between the blade and the

mower deck to prevent the blade from turning.

●Installing: See figure 12a.

●Removing: See figure 12b.

NOTE: Do not wedge the block of wood between the

blade and the plastic cover.

4. Using a 16 mm wrench or socket (not provided), loosen

the blade bolt by turning the bolt in a counterclockwise

direction as viewed from the bottom of the product.

5. Remove the blade bolt, spring washer, and blade.

6. Place the new blade on the shaft. Make sure it is

installed with the curved ends pointing up toward the

mower deck and not down toward the ground.

7. Replace the spring washer, and blade bolt on the shaft.

Finger tighten the bolt by turning in a clockwise direction

as viewed from the bottom of the product.

NOTE: Ensure all parts are replaced in the exact order

in which they were removed.

8. Torque the blade bolt down using a torque wrench (not

provided) to ensure the bolt is properly tightened.

9. The recommended torque for the blade bolt is 40–45

Nm.

NOTE: Do not sharpen the blades; replace with new

item. Blades need to be properly balanced to avoid

damage and personal injury.

CLEANING THE AIR FILTER

See figure 13.

For proper performance and long life, keep the air filter

clean.

1. Remove the air filter cover by pushing down the latch

while gently pulling out the cover.

2. Remove the air filter and clean it in warm soapy water.

Rinse and let dry completely.

3. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the air filter, then

squeeze it out using an absorbent cloth or paper towel.

4. Reinstall the air filter into the air filter base.

5. Replace and secure the air filter cover.

NOTE: The filter should be replaced annually for best

performance.

FUEL CAP

WARNING

A leaking fuel cap is a fire hazard and must be replaced

immediately.

The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable filter and a

check valve. A clogged fuel cap will cause poor engine

performance. If performance improves when the fuel cap

is loosened, check valve may be faulty or clogged. Replace

fuel cap if required.

CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL

See figure 14.

Ensure the fuel tank is completely empty before tipping the

unit over; otherwise, fuel will leak out.

Engine oil should be changed after every 25 hours of use.

Change the oil while the engine oil is still warm, but not hot.

This allows the oil to drain quickly and completely.

1. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.

2. Tip mower onto its side and allow oil to drain from the oil

fill hole into an approved container.

3. Place the product upright and refill with oil following the

instructions in the Adding/Checking Oil section.

NOTE: Used oil should be disposed of at an approved

disposal site. See your local oil retailer for more

information.

MAINTAINING THE SPARK PLUG

See figure 15.

The spark plug must be properly gapped and free of

deposits in order to ensure proper engine operation. To

check:

1. Remove the spark plug boot.

2. Clean any dirt from around base of the spark plug.

3. Remove the spark plug using a 13/16 in. spark plug

socket (not provided).

4. Inspect the spark plug for damage, and clean with a

wire brush before reinstalling. If the insulator is cracked

or chipped, spark plug should be replaced.

NOTE: Use the recommended E7RTC spark plug for

replacement.

5. Measure the plug gap. The correct gap is 0.71 mm -

0.79 mm. To widen the gap, if necessary, carefully bend

the ground (top) electrode. To lessen the gap, gently tap

the ground electrode on a hard surface.

6. Seat the spark plug in position; thread in by hand to

prevent cross-threading.

7. Tighten with wrench to compress the washer. If the

spark plug is new, use 1/2 turn to compress the washer

appropriate amount. If reusing an old spark plug, use

1/8 to 1/4 turn for proper washer compression.

NOTE: An improperly tightened spark plug will become

very hot and could damage the engine.

8. Reinstall the spark plug boot.

MAINTAINING THE DRIVE GEAR

See figure 16.

To ensure smooth operation of the wheels, the wheel

assembly should be cleaned before storage.

1. Remove the hub cap.

2. Remove the nut and the wheel and set aside.

3. Remove the dust cover, e-ring, washer, pins, and the

wheel gear. Clean any dirt from these items and the

end of the drive shaft by wiping with a dry cloth. If

necessary, rubbing alcohol may be used to remove any

stubborn dirt.

WARNING

Do not lubricate any of the wheel components.

Lubrication may cause the wheel components to fail

during use, which could result in product damage and/

or serious personal injury to the operator.

4. Reinstall the wheel gear with the arrows facing the front

of the product. Reinstall pins, washer, e-rings, and dust

cover.

NOTE: Ensure the left gear and right gear are in their

correct location.

5. Reinstall the wheel and the nut. Tighten the nut to

secure.

6. Reinstall the hub cap.

REPLACING THE WHEELS

See figure 17.

WARNING

Only use replacement wheels approved by the

manufacturer of the product. Using wheels that are

not approved by the manufacturer of the product is

hazardous and could result in serious personal injury.

1. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.

Allow blade to come to a complete stop.

2. Remove the hub cap.

3. Remove the nut from the wheel axle, then remove the

wheel.

4. Replace with a new wheel and reinstall the nut to

secure.

STORING THE PRODUCT

When storing the product for 30 days or more:

■If using a fuel stabilizer, follow the stabilizer

manufacturer’s directions to add stabilizer to petrol in the

fuel tank. Run the engine at least 10 minutes after adding

stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach the carburetor.

WARNING

Do not store the product with petrol in the tank inside a

building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

■If not using a fuel stabilizer, allow the engine to run until

the product is completely out of petrol.

■Once the engine has stopped, allow the blade to come

to a complete stop and disconnect the spark plug wire.

■Turn the fuel valve to the closed position.

■Turn the product on its side (with carburetor facing up)

and clean grass clippings that have accumulated on the

underside of the mower deck.

■Clean the underside of the mower deck.

■Wipe the product clean with a dry cloth.

■Check all nuts, bolts, knobs, screws, fasteners, etc., for

tightness.

■Inspect moving parts for damage, breakage, and wear.

Have repairs made on any damaged or missing parts.

■Store the product in a well-ventilated area that is clean,

dry, and out of the reach of children.

■Do not store near corrosive materials, such as fertilizer

or rock salt.

To lower the handle before storing:

See figure 18.

■Remove starter rope from the guide and allow it to

retract into the engine.

■Remove the grass catcher.

■Release the upper quick-release fasteners of the upper

handle and fold the upper handle down.

■Release the lower quick-release fastener.

■Fold the lower handle forward past the edges of the

handle mounting brackets and make sure that the

bracket supports the handle; otherwise, the air filter

may be damaged.

■Close the lower quick-release fasteners and let the

bracket support the handle, making sure not to bend or

kink the control cables.

TRANSPORTATION

■Stop the product, disconnect the spark plug wire, and

wait until the blade comes to a complete stop. Allow the

product to cool down.

■Empty the fuel tank by running the engine until it stops.

Empty oil by following the instruction for changing oil.

■Secure the product against movement or falling to

prevent injury to persons or damage to the product.

UTILISATION PRÉVUE

Ce produit est destiné à la tonte du gazon par les

L'ensemble des quatre roues doit toucher le sol au cours

de la tonte. Cette tondeuse se contrôle en marchant

derrière elle.

■Vérifiez régulièrement le bon serrage des écrous, vis et

boulons pour que l'appareil soit toujours en bon état de

fonctionnement.

■Vérifiez fréquemment tout signe d'usure et l'absence

de détérioration ou de trous dans le bac de ramassage

d'herbe. Ceci pourrait provoquer la projection d'objets

en direction de l'opérateur.

■Remplacez les éléments usés ou endommagés avant

d'utiliser le produit.

■Ne faites jamais fonctionner la tondeuse si le

relâchement de la manette de poussée n'entraîne pas

un arrêt du moteur.

■Ne pas utiliser le produit sans l'ensemble du bac de

ramassage ou la garde de l'ouverture de décharge à

fermeture automatique en place.

■N'utilisez pas le produit en cas de risque d'éclair.

■Ne faites pas forcer le produit. Elle effectuera un

meilleur travail dans de meilleures conditions de

sécurité si elle est utilisée à la vitesse pour laquelle elle

a été conçue.

■Ne faites pas forcer votre tondeuse. La tonte d'herbe

épaisse et grasse peut entraîner une chute du régime

moteur, ou une coupure d'alimentation. Lorsque vous

tondez de l'herbe haute et épaisse, une première passe

à la plus grande hauteur de coupe permettra de réduire

la charge de la tondeuse. Reportez-vous à Ajustement

de la hauteur de lame.

■Arrêtez la lame lorsque vous traversez des surfaces

recouvertes de graviers.

■Ne tirez pas le produit en arrière à moins que cela ne

soit absolument nécessaire. Si vous devez reculer la

machine pour l'éloigner d'un mur ou d'un obstacle,

regardez d'abord par terre et derrière vous pour éviter

de trébucher ou de faire passer la machine sur vos

pieds.

■Arrêtez la(les) lame(s) si la machine doit être soulevée

pour son transport lors du passage sur des surfaces

non herbeuses, et lorsque vous la transportez vers ou

depuis la surface à tondre.

■N'utilisez jamais la machine si un de ses carters ou

une des ses protections sont endommagés, ou dont les

éléments de sécurité, tels que déflecteur et/ou panier

de ramassage ne sont pas en place.

■Mettez le moteur en marche avec prudence en

respectant les instructions et gardez vos mains et

vos pieds à distance de la zone de coupe. Restez en

permanence à l’écart de la trappe d’éjection.

■Ne soulevez ni ne transportez jamais la tondeuse

lorsque son moteur tourne.

■Evitez trous, racines, monticules, pierres et autres

objets cachés. Un terrain accidenté peut provoquer une

glissade et une chute entrainant un accident.

■Lorsque vous ne l’utilisez pas, rangez la tondeuse en

un lieu bien ventilé, sec, verrouillé et hors de portée

des enfants.

■Suivez les recommandations du fabricant concernant

l’utilisation et l’installation correcte des accessoires.

N’utilisez que les accessoires recommandés par le

fabricant.

■Ne faites pas fonctionner le moteur dans un lieu confiné

où les dangereuses émanations de monoxyde de

carbone pourraient s'accumuler.

■Ne changez pas les réglages du régulateur de

puissance et ne faites pas tourner le moteur en

surrégime.

■Ne basculez pas la tondeuse à gazon lorsque vous

en démarrez le moteur ou lorsque le moteur tourne.

Ceci mettrait la lame à découvert et augmenterait la

probabilité que des objets soient projetés.

■Ne vous tenez pas en face de la trappe d’éjection

lorsque vous démarrez l'appareil.

■Arrêtez le moteur, débranchez l'antiparasite, attendez

l'arrêt complet de la lame et laissez refroidir le moteur

dans les cas suivants :

●chaque fois que vous laissez le produit sans

surveillance

●avant de dégager un blocage ou de débloquer

l'évacuation

●avant de travailler sur le produit, de le vérifier ou

de le nettoyer

mesures de sécurité préventives réduisent le risque de

démarrage accidentel de l’outil.

Prenez garde aux lames coupantes.

Les lames continuent de tourner une

fois le moteur coupé. Avant toute

opération de maintenance sur le

produit, retirez la douille de la bougie.

Dévissez lentement le bouchon du

réservoir.

RÉDUCTION DES RISQUES

Il a été reporté que les vibrations engendrées par les outils

à main peuvent contribuer à l'apparition d'un état appelé

le Syndrome de Raynaud chez certaines personnes. Les

symptômes peuvent comprendre des fourmillements,

un engourdissement et un blanchiment des doigts,

généralement par temps froid. Des facteurs héréditaires,

l'exposition au froid et à l'humidité, le régime alimentaire,

le tabagisme et les habitudes de travail peuvent contribuer

au développement de ces symptômes. Certaines mesures

peuvent être prises par l'utilisateur pour aider à réduire les

effets des vibrations:

■Gardez votre corps au chaud par temps froid. Lorsque

MONTAGE

DÉBALLAGE

INSTALLATION DU GUIDON

Voir figure 2.

1. Placez les poignées en position d'utilisation correcte et

verrouillez-les à l'aide des boutons du guidon. Assurez-

vous que la goupille de verrouillage de la poignée

inférieure est insérée dans le trou du support.

2. Placez les fermoirs à libération rapide et fixez l'ensemble

en serrant les pommeaux à démontage rapide.

REMARQUE: Evitez de pincer ou de coincer tout câble.

3. Installez le collier de câble sur la poignée.

4. Installez les câbles dans le collier de câble.

5. Mettez la corde du lanceur dans le guide sur la poignée.

6. Installez le bac de ramassage d'herbe.

MISE EN PLACE DE L'ACCESSOIRE DE PAILLAGE

(POUR UTILISATION AVEC PAILLAGE)

REMARQUE: Lorsque vous utilisez l'accessoire de

paillage, n'installez ni le défl ecteur d'évacuation latérale,

ni le panier.

1. Soulevez et maintenez la trappe d'éjection arrière.

2. Saisissez l'accessoire de paillage par sa poignée et

insérez-le avec un léger angle, comme illustré.

3. Poussez fermement sur l'accessoire de paillage pour

le mettre en place.

4. Abaissez la trappe d'éjection arrière.

ASSEMBLAGE DU BAC DE RAMASSAGE

1. Insérez les embouts en plastique sur le cadre

métallique.

2. Emboîtez le reste des éléments du bac de ramassage

en place.

MISE EN PLACE DU PANIER (POUR TONTE AVEC RA-

MASSAGE ARRIÈRE)

Voir figure 4.

REMARQUE: Lorsque vous utilisez le bac de ramassage,

n'installez ni le défl ecteur d'évacuation latérale, ni

l'accessoire de paillage. Assurez-vous également que la

trappe d'évacuation latérale est bien fermée.

1. Soulevez la trappe arrière d’éjection.

2. Soulevez le bac à herbe par sa poignée et placez-le

sous l'ouverture arrière, afin que les crochets de la

structure du bac à herbe s'appuient sur la charnière de

l'ouverture arrière.

3. Relâchez la trappe arrière. Lorsque l'installation est

correcte, les crochets du bac à herbe reposent de

manière stable sur la charnière de l'ouverture arrière.

4. Assurez-vous que l'ouverture arrière est totalement

engagée sur le bac à herbe. Assurez-vous qu'il n'y a

pas d'espace entre l'ouverture arrière et le bac à herbe.

MONTAGE DE LA SORTIE D'ÉVACUATION LATÉRALE

(POUR TONTE AVEC ÉJECTION LATÉRALE)

Voir figure 9.

REMARQUE: Lorsque vous utilisez le défl ecteur

d'évacuation latérale, n'installez pas bac de ramassage.

L'accessoire de paillage doit rester en place.

REMARQUE: Lorsque le défl ecteur d’éjection latérale n’est

pas utilisé, veiller à ce que la trappe d’éjection latérale soit

en position verrouillée.

1. D’une main, enfoncer le mécanisme de verrouillage et

soulever la trappe d’éjection latérale de l’autre.

2. Alignez les crochets du déflecteur avec l'axe de la

charnière à l'intérieur de la trappe.

3. Abaissez le déflecteur jusqu'à ce que les crochets

soient en place sur l'axe de la charnière de la trappe

de paillage.

4. Relâchez le déflecteur et la trappe d'évacuation arrière.

REMARQUE: Après chaque utilisation, nettoyez et

inspectez le mécanisme de verrouillage pour vérifi er qu’il

fonctionne correctement.

UTILISATION

CARBURANT ET REMPLISSAGE DU RÉSERVOIR

AVERTISSEMENT

Manipulez toujours l'essence avec précaution; elle est

hautement inflammable.

■Utilisez l’essence récente.

■Stockez le carburant dans un bidon autorisé à contenir

de l’essence.

■Procédez toujours au remplissage à l'extérieur. Ne

inhalez pas les vapeurs de carburant. Ne fumez pas

et restez à l'écart des fl ammes nues et des sources

d'étincelles.

■Ne laissez ni essence ni lubrifiant entrer en contact

avec votre peau.

■Gardez l'essence et l'huile à l'écart de vos yeux. Si de

l'essence ou de l'huile venait à entrer en contact avec

vos yeux, rincez-les immédiatement à l'eau claire. S’ils

restent irrités, consultez immédiatement un médecin.

■Nettoyez immédiatement toute essence renversée.

REMPLISSAGE DU RÉSERVOIR

Voir figure 5.

AVERTISSEMENT

Arrêtez toujours le moteur avant de remplir le réservoir.

Laissez le moteur et les éléments de l'échappement

refroidir avant de refaire le plein de carburant. Ne retirez

jamais le bouchon du réservoir d'essence et n'ajoutez

jamais d'essence dans une machine dont le moteur

tourne ou est encore chaud. Éloignez-vous d’au moins

9 m de la zone de ravitaillement avant de démarrer

le moteur. Ne fumez pas. Le non-respect de cet

avertissement pourrait entraîner de graves blessures.

AVERTISSEMENT

Ne remplissez pas trop. Remplir le réservoir de carburant

à 25 mm sous le sommet du col de carburant. Après

avoir fait le plein, n'inclinez pas la tondeuse à plus de 25

degrés car vous risqueriez de renverser de l'essence et

de provoquer un incendie, etc.

1. Nettoyez le réservoir autour du bouchon afin d'éviter

toute contamination du carburant.

2. Dévissez lentement le bouchon du réservoir afin de
