INTENDED USE

The battery-powered cultivator is

intended for loosening of soil in an

open garden area. This product is not

intended for commercial use. Do not

use it for any task.

RESIDUAL RISKS

Even when following the intended usage

of the appliance there are always residual

risks which cannot be prevented. The

following hazards might apply:

■ Contact with the cultivator blade

(Risk of cutting)

■Unforeseen movement of the

cultivator (getting caught in roots, etc)

■Slinging of broken stones, clay, etc.

■Injury to hearing if no adequate

hearing protection is taken.

GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS

WORK AREA SAFETY

■ Keep work area clean and well

lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite

accidents. Work only in daylight or in

good artificial light.

■Do not operate power tools in explosive

atmospheres, such as in the presence

of flammable liquids, gases or dust.

Power tools create sparks which may

ignite the dust or fumes.

■Keep children and bystanders

away while operating a power tool.

Distractions can cause you to lose

control. Never work while people,

especially children, or pets are nearby.

■Keep in mind that the operator is

responsible for accidents or hazards

occurring to other people or their

property.

■Use the machine always in accordance

with the manufacturer's instruction

handbook.

■Read the instructions carefully. Be

familiar with the controls and the

proper use of the equipment.

■Never allow children or people

unfamiliar with these instructions to

use the machine. Local regulations

can restrict the age of the operator.

■The machine should only be operated

by trained persons.

■Thoroughly inspect the area where the

equipment is to be used and remove

all objects which can be thrown up by

the machine.

■Before using, always visually inspect

to see that the tools are not worn out

or damaged. Replace worn out or

damaged elements and bolts in sets to

preserve balance.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

■Do not expose power tools to rain

or wet conditions. Water entering a

power tool will increase the risk of

electric shock.

PERSONAL SAFETY

■Stay alert, watch what you are doing

and use common sense when

operating a power tool. Do not use

a power tool while you are tired or

under the influence of drugs, alcohol

or medication. A moment of inattention

while operating power tools may result

in serious personal injury.

■Use personal protective equipment.

Always wear eye protection. Protective

equipment such as a dust mask, non-

skid safety shoes or hearing protection

used for appropriate conditions will

reduce personal injuries.

■Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure

the switch is in the off-position before

connecting battery pack, picking up

or carrying the tool. Carrying power

tools with your finger on the switch

or energising power tools that have

the switch on invites accidents. While

working, always wear safety shoes

and long trousers. Do not operate the

equipment when barefoot or wearing

open sandals.

■Remove any adjusting key or wrench

before turning the power tool on. A

wrench or a key left attached to a

rotating part of the power tool may

result in personal injury.

■Do not overreach. Keep proper footing

and balance at all times. This enables

better control of the power tool in

unexpected situations.

■Dress properly. Do not wear loose

clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair

and clothing away from moving parts.

Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair

can be caught in moving parts.

■Do not let familiarity gained from

frequent use of tools allow you to

become complacent and ignore tool

safety principles. A careless action can

cause severe injury within a fraction of

a second.

working conditions and the work to

be performed. Use of the power tool

for operations different from those

intended could result in a hazardous

situation.

■Keep handles and grasping surfaces

dry, clean and free from oil and

grease. Slippery handles and grasping

surfaces do not allow for safe handling

and control of the tool in unexpected

situations.

■Be aware of the hazards when working

on slopes.

■Be aware of the special hazards when

working on difficult soil (stony, hard,

etc.).

BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE

■Recharge only with the charger

specified by the manufacturer. A

charger that is suitable for one type of

battery pack may create a risk of fire

when used with another battery pack.

■Use power tools only with specifically

designated battery packs. Use of any

other battery packs may create a risk

of injury and fire.

■When battery pack is not in use, keep

it away from other metal objects, like

paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws

or other small metal objects, that can

make a connection from one terminal

to another. Shorting the battery

terminals together may cause burns or

a fire.

■Under abusive conditions, liquid may

be ejected from the battery; avoid

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

■Do not force the power tool. Use the

correct power tool for your application.

The correct power tool will do the job

better and safer at the rate for which it

was designed.

■Do not use the power tool if the switch

does not turn it on and off. Any power

tool that cannot be controlled with

the switch is dangerous and must be

repaired.

■Disconnect the battery pack from

the power tool before making any

adjustments, changing accessories, or

storing power tools. Such preventive

safety measures reduce the risk of

starting the power tool accidentally.

■Store idle power tools out of the reach

of children and do not allow persons

unfamiliar with the power tool or these

instructions to operate the power tool.

Power tools are dangerous in the

hands of untrained users.

■Maintain power tools and accessories.

Check for misalignment or binding of

moving parts, breakage of parts and

any other condition that may affect the

power tool’s operation. If damaged,

have the power tool repaired before

use. Many accidents are caused by

poorly maintained power tools.

■Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.

Properly maintained cutting tools with

sharp cutting edges are less likely to

bind and are easier to control.

■Use the power tool, accessories and

tool bits etc. in accordance with these

instructions, taking into account the

contact. If contact accidentally occurs,

flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes,

additionally seek medical help. Liquid

ejected from the battery may cause

irritation or burns.

■Do not use a battery pack or tool that

is damaged or modified. Damaged

or modified batteries may exhibit

unpredictable behaviour resulting in

fire, explosion or risk of injury.

■Do not expose a battery pack or tool

to fire or excessive temperature.

Exposure to fire or temperature above

130 °C may cause explosion.

■Follow all charging instructions

and do not charge the battery pack

or tool outside the temperature

range specified in the instructions.

Charging improperly or at

temperatures outside the specified

range may damage the battery and

increase the risk of fire.

SERVICE

■Have your power tool serviced by

a qualified repair person using only

identical replacement parts. This will

ensure that the safety of the power tool

is maintained.

■Never service damaged battery packs.

Service of battery packs should only

be performed by the manufacturer or

authorized service providers.

■The machine shall be stopped when

carrying out maintenance and cleaning

operations, when changing tools and

when being transported by means

other than under its own power.

■Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight

to ensure the equipment is in safe

working condition.

■Replace worn or damaged parts for

safety.

OPERATION

■Always be sure of your footing on

slopes.

■Walk, never run with the machine.

■For wheeled rotary machines, work

across the slopes, never up and down.

■Exercise extreme caution when

changing direction on slopes.

■Do not work on excessively steep

slopes.

■Use extreme caution when reversing

or pulling the machine towards you.

■Do not put your hands or feet near or

under rotating parts.

■Never pick up or carry a machine while

the machine is running.

DISPOSAL

Separate collection. This product

must not be disposed of with normal

household waste. Should you nd one

day that your Snapper product needs

replacement, or if it is no further use to

you, do not dispose of it with household

waste. Make this product available for

separate collection.

Separate collection of used products

and packaging allows materials to

be recycled and used again. Re-use

of recycled materials helps prevent

environmental pollution and reduces

the demand for raw materials.

Batteries

Li-ion

At the end of their useful life, discard

batteries with due care for our

environment. The battery contains

material which is hazardous to you and

the environment. It must be removed

and disposed of separately at a facility

that accepts lithium-ion batteries.

UNPACKING

This product requires assembly.

and satisfactorily operated the

ASSEMBLING THE UPPER HANDLE

See Figure 2

■ Align the holes on the middle with

the holes on the lower handle. Insert

the bolts, and tighten them using the

wing nuts provided.

ASSEMBLING THE WHEELS See

Figure 3

Use the wheel assembly to transport

the unit to and from the work area or

when cultivating.The wheel position of

the unit is adjustable.

The wheels are used to control the

depth of operation.

To install:

■ Insert the wheel assembly into the

support rod at the back of the tine

shield.

■ Align wheel assembly hole to

desired position. Slide bolt through

hole and attach wing nut to bolt.

■ Tighten the wing nut.

■ Wheels can be removed for greater

tilling depth.

To prevent the tines from touching the

ground while moving please tilt the

appliance.

INSTALLING THE TINES See Figure 4

The cultivator has four tines —two

inner tines stamped B and C, and

two outer tines stamped A and D.

For correct operation of the unit, the

tines must be installed in the correct

orientation according to Figure 1.

■Place tine C on the tine shaft to the

left of the gear box. The stamped

side of the tine should face away

from the gear box.

■Place tine B on the tine shaft to the

right of the gear box. The stamped

side of the tine should face away

from the gear box.

■ Place a felt washer on each side

of the tine shaft, and slide to rest

against the inner tines.

■Place the outer tine stamped D on

the left side of the tine shaft. The

stamped side should face in toward

tine C.

■Place the outer tine stamped A on

the right side of the tine shaft. The

stamped side should face in toward

tine B.

■ To secure the tines to the tine shaft,

insert the U shape hitch pins into the

holes located on either side of the

tine shaft.

NOTE: The unit will not operate properly

if the tines are installed incorrectly. If

you notice a problem with the cultivating

operation of the unit, check for proper

tine positioning.

WARNING

Do not allow familiarity with tools to

make you careless. Remember that

a careless fraction of a second is suff

icient to inict serious injury.

WARNING

Always wear safety goggles or safety

glasses with side shields when

operating tools. Failure to do so

could result in objects being thrown

WARNING

Do not use any attachments or

accessories not recommended by

the manufacturer of this tool. The use

of attachments or accessories not

recommended can result in serious

personal injury.

WARNING

Do not allow hands, feet, or any oth-

er part of the body or clothing near

the rotating tines or any other mov-

ing part. The tines begin to rotate

forward once the switch trigger is de-

pressed. The tines continue to rotate

until the switch trigger is released.

Failure to avoid contact could cause

serious personal injury.

OPERATION

INSTALLING THE BATTERY PACK

See Figure 5

■ Align the battery with the cavity on

the cultivator.

■Hold the unit.

■Insert the battery in the opening

until the battery release button locks

into place. You should hear a “click”

once it is installed.

REMOVING THE BATTERY PACK

See Figure 5

■ Release the switch bail to stop the

tool.

■Press the battery release button.

This will cause the battery to raise

out of the tool.

■Hold the unit. Pull the battery pack

out of the cultivator.

APPLICATIONS

■Breaking up garden soil to prepare

seed bed for planting.

■ Shallow cultivating to remove

weeds.

STARTING / STOPPING THE CULTI-

VATOR See Figure 6

■Insert the battery pack.

■ Stand behind the unit with the tines

on the ground and the work area

clean and free of obstructions.

■Press and hold the safety lock-out

button.

■ Pull the switch bail toward the

handlebar to begin tine rotation.

■ To stop the cultivator, release the

switch bail.

PREPARING THE SEED BED See

Figure 7

The cultivator can be used to break up

garden soil and prepare a seedbed for

planting. Plan ahead to leave enough

room between the seed rows to allow

for machine cultivating after the plants

have grown.

NOTE: Several passes over the same

path may be required to reach the

desired depth. Do not try to dig too

deeply in the rst pass. If the machine

jumps or bucks, allow the unit to move

forward at a slightly faster rate or install

wheel / drag stake assembly. To dig

more deeply, lift up on the handlebar.

Apply downward pressure on the

handlebar for more shallow cultivating.

If the machine stays and digs in one

spot, try rocking the unit from side to

side to start it moving forward again. If

the soil is very hard, water a few days

before cultivating. Avoid working the

soil when soggy or wet. Wait a day or

two after heavy rain for the ground to

dry.

GENERAL CULTIVATING See Figure 8

WARNING

Before transporting the application,

switch off the motor.

Shallow cultivating less than 5cm.

deep can be used to disrupt weeds

and aerate soil, without injuring nearby

plant roots. It should be done often

so that weeds do not grow large and

cause tangling in the tines of the unit.

The two outer tine blades can be re-

moved from the unit to allow a more

narrow cultivating width.

To remove the two outer tines:

■ Remove the battery pack.

■ Remove the hitch pins from the

holes on the ends of the tine shaft.

■ Remove the outside tine blades and

felt washers from the tine shaft.

■Place hitch pins in the holes.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING

When servicing, use only identical

replacement parts. Use of any other

parts may create a hazard or cause

product damage.

WARNING

Always wear safety goggles or safety

glasses with side shields during

cultivator operation or when blowing

dust. If operation is dusty, also wear

a dust mask.

WARNING

To avoid serious personal injury,

always remove the battery pack from

the tool when cleaning or performing

any maintenance.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Avoid using solvents when cleaning

plastic parts. Most plastics are

susceptible to damage from various

types of commercial solvents. Use

clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil,

grease, etc.

WARNING

Do not at any time let brake liquids,

gasoline, petroleum-based products,

penetrating oils, etc., come in contact

with plastic parts. Chemicals can

damage, weaken or destroy plastic

which may result in serious personal

injury.

Only the parts shown on the parts list

are intended to be repaired or replaced

by the customer. All other parts should

be replaced at an Authorized Service

Center.

CLEARING TINES OF FOREIGN

OBJECTS

During operation, a stone or root could

become lodged in the tines, or tall

grass or weeds may become wrapped

around the tine shaft. To clear the

tines, release the switch bail. Remove

the battery, and dislodge or remove

any obstacles from the tines or tine

shaft. To ease removal of tall grass or

weeds that are wrapped around the

tine shaft, remove one or more of the

tines from the tine shaft.

STORING THE CULTIVATOR

The following steps should be taken

before storing the cultivator for the

season.

■ Clean dirt, grass, and other materials

from the entire unit.

■ Wipe the tines with oil or spray them

with silicone lubricant to prevent

rusting.

■ Oil the switch trigger cable and all

visible moving parts. Do not remove

the motor cover.

■ Order new parts to replace any that

are badly worn or broken.

■Store in an upright position in a

clean, dry place. Store with the

handles in the extended position,

or loosen handle knobs and fold

handles down. Do not allow switch

trigger cable to become pinched

when lowering the handlebar.

■Store in a dry and clean place and

out of reach of children.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION

Motor fails to start

when switch trigger

is depressed.

Battery is not secure.

To secure the battery pack,

make sure the latch on bottom

of the battery pack snaps into

place.

Battery is not charged.

Charge the battery pack

according to the instructions

included with your model.

Motor runs but tines

do not move.

Stone or root could

become lodged in the

tines.

To clear the tines, release

the trigger lever. remove the

battery, and dislodge or remove

any obstacles from the tines or

tine shaft.

Tall grass or weeds

may become wrapped

around the tine shaft.

To ease removal of tall grass or

weeds that are wrapped around

the tine shaft, remove one or

more of the tines from the tine

shaft. See Tine Removal and

Installation in the manual.

Gear train failure. Take unit to authorized service

center.
