7.1 Notes on installation
These installation instructions must be read completely prior to the instal-
lation of the air conditioning roof unit.
The following tips and instructions must be observed wile installing the air
conditioning roof unit:
!
Always check whether any vehicle components could be damaged or
their operation impaired by the unit before installing the air condition-
ing roof unit. You can use fig. 1, page 3 and fig. 2, page 3 to check
the dimensions of the installed unit. The dotted line indicates the mid-
dle of the sunroof opening.
Before installation, find out (by consulting the manufacturer of the

7.3 Preparing the unit
A
Place the air conditioning roof unit on a work surface with the housing
facing down.
A
Screw in the 14 self-threading M6 thread inserts in the blind holes
marked with “3” (fig. 3 1, page 4).
Use a 5 mm hexagon bit for this.
Screw in the 4 self-threading M6 thread inserts in the corresponding
blind holes as shown in fig. 3 3, page 4.
Screw in the 4 M8 thread inserts in the corresponding blind holes as
shown in fig. 3 2, page 4.
Use the supplied 1/4" bit for this.
NOTE
Dispose of all waste material, glue, silicone and seals separately.
Observe the local disposal guidelines.
NOTICE!
During preparatory work on the surfaces, secure the unit from falling
down.
Make sure that the work surface is clean and level to ensure that the unit
is not damaged.
NOTICE!

8 Nm for M6
10 Nm for M8
17
CoolAir RT780 Installation
7.4 Mounting the adapter frame
Apply a flexible, non-hardening butyl sealing compound (e.g.
SikaLastomer-710) to the contact surface of the adapter frame
(surface with drill holes for fastening the frame) to the air conditioning
roof unit (fig. 4 1, page 4).
Secure the adapter frame as shown in fig. 4, page 4 with the
14 hexagon head bolts M6 x 20 mm (fig. 4 2, page 4), the spring
washers M6 (fig. 4 3, page 4) and the washers 6.5 x 20 (fig. 4 4,
page 4).
7.5 Attaching the seal for the cab roof
A
Stick the 2.5 m insulating tape (10 x 20 mm) to the cab roof, following
the outline of the sunroof opening (fig. 5, page 5).
Provide the abutting edge and the top edge of the insulating tape with
an unhardened plastic butyl sealing compound (e.g.
SikaLastomer-710).
NOTICE!
Ensure that the adhesive surface for the seal between the unit and the
cab roof is clean (free of dust, oil, etc.).
EN
Installation CoolAir RT780
18
7.6 Installing the unit in the sunroof
Position the fastening holder under the cab roof (fig. 6, page 5). The
fastening holder is pushed between the cab roof (chassis) and the roof
lining.
A
Set the unit down centrally aligned and in the direction of travel
(fig. 1, page 3) on the sunroof opening.
I
Push a hex screw M8 x 100 mm (fig. 7 4, page 6) with a washer
8.4 x 20 (fig. 7 3, page 6) through the 4 through holes in the fasten-
ing holders (fig. 7 2, page 6) and then screw a nut M8 (fig. 7 1,
page 6) approx. 50 mm on the hex screw.
Screw the 4 hex screws M8 x 100 mm in the 4 thread inserts on the
bottom of the unit.
A
Tighten the screws for fastening the unit with a torque of 4 Nm.
Now turn the M8 nuts (fig. 7 1, page 6) to tighten them against the
fastening holder.
NOTICE!
The fastening holders must be positioned on a firm surface, since the
unit will be pushed against the cab roof by the holder. The contact sur-
face of the fastening holder must be at least 40 mm on all sides.
NOTE
Make sure the air conditioning roof unit is centred perfectly. The seal
must be applied continuously around the air conditioning roof unit after
being placed on the roof of the vehicle. This is the only way to ensure a
tight seal.
NOTICE!
Do not exceed the specified torque under any circumstances. This is
necessary in order to avoid deforming the fastening holder. Ensure that
a high amount of contact pressure is achieved with little expenditure of
energy.
19
CoolAir RT780 Installation
7.7 Installing the electrical supply lines
!
A
I
You can connect the unit to the battery via the lorry's terminal block or
directly. The terminal block is to be preferred for the connection. Ask your
vehicle manufacturer for the specifications of the terminal block.
Lay the supply line and connect it to the vehicle (red line to plus, black
line to minus).
Plug in the supply line plug into the socket of the air conditioning roof
unit supply line.
To relieve strain on the supply line, secure it with a cable tie, e.g. to
the cab roof.
7.8 Fastening the cover frame
A
fig. 7, page 6
Fasten the cover frame (7) to the unit using the four cylindrical screws
M6 x 110 mm (9), the M6 washers (8), the eight spacer sleeves (two
L = 40 mm) (6) and the four spacer sleeves L = 12 mm (5). The
spacer sleeves keep the cover frame at an interval to the unit.
WARNING!
The electrical power supply may only be performed by qualified
personnel with specialist knowledge.
Make sure there is no voltage present on electrically operated
components before carrying out work on them!
NOTICE!
Fit a fuse of 25 amps to the connection to the vehicle's power supply.
The battery must be able to supply the required current and voltage
(chapter “Technical data” on page 25).
NOTE
The unit is equipped as standard with a 4 m long cable with a cross-
section of 6 mm
2
. If longer cable lengths are required, then the cable
cross-section must be increased by an authorised specialist workshop:
In this case cut off the cable as closely as possible to the unit
(max. 0.5 m) and then establish a suitable connection with a larger
cable cross-section.
When the cable is extended by 4 m to 6 m in length, the manufacturer
recommends using a cross-section of at least 8 mm
2
.
NOTICE!
Screw the screws in carefully order not to damage the cover frame.
